Twenty staff members from Saint Lucia National Tru

Twenty staff members from Saint Lucia National Trust (the Trust) have completed a two-week course at the Royal St. Lucia Police Force Academy, from September 4th to 15th 2023, in Basic Security Training based on the training provided for Special Reserve Police😁👏

During the training, they learned about how to handle physical evidence, accurately observe and record details both in daily logs and for incidents📝

Trainees also learnt how to present reports and evidence for police reports and court proceedings👍

Training also included basic crime prevention and how to handle various types of threats and criminal activities and was rounded out with sessions on customer service, team work, ethics and professionalism💪

On Friday September 15th, the trainees underwent an evaluation before the graduation ceremony where they received certificates of completion🏅

At the ceremony, welcome remarks were given by Inspector Keth Thompson, Commandant of the Police Force, followed by brief remarks from Mr. Ronald Philip, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Mrs. Jeannine Compton- Antoine, Director of the Trust😊

Mr. Godwin Richardson and Mr. Vincent “Jeg” Clarke, Trust staff members spoke about the impact and value of the training received🤓

It is expected that the staff members will assist the police in investigating any incidents or accidents at Pigeon Island National Landmark or other Trust sites😎✨

Through this training, the relationship between police and the Trust has been successfully strengthened🎊

The Saint Lucia National Trust wishes to inform its members, patrons, the general public, tour operators and other service providers, that the Pigeon Island National Landmark (PINL) will remain closed through Tuesday September 19, 2023 and will reopen on Wednesday September 20, 2023.

This is necessary to complete the remedial works for improved visitor safety and experience, preservation of historic structures, and landscape maintenance.

The Trust apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause members and patrons.

We found this turtle nesting on the recently expanded beach on 7th Sept 2023😆 Three other turtle nests also hatched in the last week👏

A few months ago, with the guidance by experts, we did tree-cutting on Pigeon Island National Landmark for specific conservation purposes, including turtle conservation, preservation of historic structures and visitor safety🌳

After the assessments of the trees, several of the trees were identified as dead, diseased, dangerously weak or dangerously positioned and a hazard to patrons😵

In addition, did you know that the Casuarina, or Australian Pine creates dense mats underground and creates sterile, acidic soils? 🤔
These characteristics prevent sea turtles from nesting & hatchling, and growth of other plants🐢😨

Now with the pruned trees, our ground staffs have made lovely benches where visitors can rest, have lunch or enjoy the view of Caribbean Sea😍✨

Antigua Racer Census on York Island, Antigua🐍🌟

Antigua racers are endemic but because of the introduction of invasive mammals (rats and mongooses) in the 1800s, they suffered a drastic decline😵
Most of the Antigua racers alive today have been implanted with microchip tags for security purposes and to monitor their growth and survival😮 (Reference: Fauna & Flora)

Mr. Trinity Hunte, a Saint Lucia National Trust ranger, joined in Antigua Racer Census on York Island, Antigua😊

He assisted and got very useful training in Racer morphometrics, pit tagging, catching and handling racers👏
