Press Release: Disrespectful and Unlawful Treatment of Saint Lucia’s oldest intact building at Morne Fortune

The Saint Lucia National Trust is shocked by a video circulating on social media, of an offroad monster truck “Pinkie” associated with a Barbadian group known as “Offroad Junkies 246″. In the video, the driver of the off-road monster truck is seen endangering Saint Lucia’s oldest intact building by recklessly driving the vehicle up the wall of the building. This building, located on Morne Fortune, is known as the Powder Magazine and is over two hundred and sixty (260) years old, having been constructed between the years 1763-1765.

This thoughtless and blatantly disrespectful action by Offroad Junkies 246, shows no regard for Saint Lucia’s unique built heritage.

The Saint Lucia National Trust urges the authorities to intervene and apply the laws regarding endangering property and dangerous driving. Further, the Trust urges all persons who are undertaking these destructive activities to immediately desist.

The Trust further requests assistance from the general public to immediately report any such damaging activity to Saint Lucia’s historic sites, monuments and structures to the Saint Lucia National Trust and local law enforcement.
