12th May is the International Day of Plant Health to raise global awareness on how protecting plant health can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development✨

Be friendly to plants! That’s the theme we would like to discuss today🙂

These photos are one day in Pigeon Island National Landmark😵‍💫 All the garbage like plastic or glass can damage the health of plants because they make it difficult for plants to uptake nutrition and can in some can poison them😖

Why do we have to take care of plant health?🥸
What are the benefits of plant health? 🤔

1 Provision of nutritious food
2 Improved soil fertility
3 Supply of clean air and water
4 Help to mitigate climate change
5 Protection of Biodiversity

🎉New Project Alert🎉 The Saint Lucia Nation

🎉New Project Alert🎉

The Saint Lucia National Trust has received funding from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) through Regional Implementation Team (RIT) coordinated by CANARI to implement a 1-year project titled, “Establishing the enabling environment for sustainable management of the Pointe Sable Environmental Protection Area (PSEPA), Saint Lucia”😊✨

The objectives of this project include👇:
• Drafting a National Protected Areas Policy;
• Assessment of the capacity of the Trust for implementing Protected Area Management and conservation programmes;
• Conducting a participatory review of the current PSEPA Management Plan in partnership with key stakeholders; and
• Developing a sustainable financing strategy for the PSEPA.

The Trust advises our patrons and the public that although The Landmark will be open from Tuesday 16th, patrons should exercise extra caution when visiting The Landmark while ECSL undertakes the dismantling and load-out of all stages, stands and all other structures.

The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the rapidly-rising levels of pollution, climate change, and other circumstances that contribute to damaging the environment and threaten the survival of our planet Earth, and to reconfirm our commitment to saving the planet😍

On April 22nd 2023, we held a short ceremony to unveil plaques commemorating two more pioneers of conservation of Saint Lucia’s built and natural heritage💐

These two outstanding women are well-known for their dedication and determination to ensure Saint Lucia’s heritage would be saved for the benefit of generations to come🤩
Patricia Ellen Charles and Maria Grech’s plaques joined those of other conservationists on the Trust’s “Wall of Conservation Heroes” at the Head Office, Pigeon Island National Landmark👏

The following people gave remarks for this ceremony🥰
• Trust Director: Ms. Jeannine Compton-Antoine
• Former Trust Director: Mr. Giles Romulus
• Former Councilor: Mr. Christopher Cox
• Members and Family members tributes to the two inductees

The goal of World Heritage Day is to bring people from all around the world together to learn about one another’s cultures, histories, and customs🤩

This years’ theme is HERITAGE CHANGES, focusing on the changes caused to heritage sites due to climate change🤓
The theme aims to discuss climate change through the lens of cultural heritage☝

Pigeon Island National Landmark (PINL) has been hit by several disasters💦
Every time a hurricane occurred, the historical buildings got damaged, and trees blown by the wind sometimes damaged these ruins😱 Some ruins are now off-limits due to years of exposure to rain, wind and other harsh weather conditions⚡

While we recognize the necessity of restoration, it is not really progressing because of the huge cost involved and the need for advanced techniques and the limited people with the skills set😖

Looking at climate change through cultural heritage, it is inevitable that the more frequent severe weather events such as hurricanes and storm surges become, the more risk there is that the valuable ruins could collapse, making it more difficult to preserve them for future generations👿

👉So, do you think cultural heritage conservation can accelerate positive climate action?🧐

Our answer is YES!💯
Most of our heritage in Saint Lucia is a mixture of natural and cultural heritage; therefore, our heritage conservation is of course directly related to preserving nature🌴

In addition, our heritage conservation can have a broad impact on society by being used as a tool to influence governments on environmental policies as well as an educational component to pass on the importance of heritage sites and the natural environment to future generations, through our conservation activities👏
