A HALF A CENTURY TO CELEBRATE!

The Saint Lucia National Trust celebrates 50 years today, 26th September 2025. The Trust extends its heartfelt thanks to all our members, individual and corporate conservation champions, the Government of Saint Lucia and all past and present staff, management and Council members for all their support over the first 50 years. Together we all have worked and continue to work steadfastly for the conservation of Saint Lucia’s unique and rich heritage, for the benefit of our present and future generations.

Our exciting year-long calendar of activities will be officially launched at our upcoming AGM in early November and persons near and far are invited to join. We invite you to follow us on social media @TrustSaintLucia to make sure you don’t miss a thing!

And we invite you to join us to assist in conserving Saint Lucia’s unique heritage by becoming a member as we work to build a strong future for Saint Lucia’s heritage!

WELCOME BACK TO THE PIGEON ISLAND NATIONAL LANDMARK

We reopen at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday 1st October 2025. We really look forward to seeing you all and we thank you for your patience while we conducted an intensive few weeks of training and staff development as well as undertaking site rehabilitation activities at the Landmark.

Staff benefitted from an excellent 3-day Customer Service workshop; a 2-day intensive Security & Defense Workshop; A Session on Relationship Management – teamwork; Learnt all about about NIC and how to best prepare for retirement and about Workers Rights and Responsibilities. The Management Team also attended a Customer Relationship Management and Donor Management 2 day workshop as part of the ongoing Financial Sustainability Programme.

We had many other proposed training and staff development activities in our sights, but we had to also allow time to do the necessary works at the Landmark! We plan to continue with short workshops and targeted training throughout to year to ensure our staff are building their skills, confidence and ability to be conservation champions!

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

We are in the final stages of preparation for the 49th Annual General Meeting to be held in early November. Please keep an eye on your inbox for further information.

OTHER EXCITING NEWS!

Our small Conservation Team has been hard at work ensuring that we collect much more detailed data on Saint Lucia’s -and the world’s- rarest snake: the non-venomous Saint Lucia Racer (Erythrolamprus ornatus).

Biosecurity and data collection visits to Maria Major, the larger island in the Maria Islands Nature Reserve, were ramped up considerably.  Visits made at times when snake activity was more likely to be seen. Additional types of data were also collected to build a clearer understanding of the ecosystem that the Racer lives in and it’s habits.

The team was immensely excited to be rewarded with the first ever sighting and recording of Saint Lucia Racer snakes mating in the wild! We now know that our racers mate during the month of August. Believe it or not, this was not known before!
